The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

Sometimes it is not obvious which resources have been allocated by the operating system for a specific parallel or serial port. This article gives the detailed steps to look up the resources.

Follow the steps given below to look up resources under Windows NT:

  1. Run command WINMSD.
     
  2. Select tab Resources.
     
  3. Press button Devices.
     
  4. Double-click one of the devices Parport for LPT or Serial for COM.
     
  5. Look up the resources which are sorted by port number.

Follow the steps given below to look up resources under Windows 2000 or Windows XP:

  1. Open the Control Panel element System.
     
  2. Select tab Hardware.
     
  3. Click button Device Manager... to open the Device Manager
     
  4. Expand the group Ports (COM & LPT).
     
  5. Double-click the desired LPT or COM port.
     
  6. Select tab Resources.
     
  7. Look up the resources.
